Chelsea star Noni Madueke was met with a hostile reception from the Wolves fans during their Premier League match at Molineux on Sunday.
The England Under-21 international was caught in a social media storm prior to the game after he accidentally posted a derogatory comment on his private Instagram account.
Madueke declared that ‘everything about’ Wolverhampton was ‘s***’ before revealing he had not intended to make the post public.
‘Damnn wrong Instagram account.. You lot are too fast [laughing emoji, face palm emoji],’ Madueke told his 960,000 followers on the social media platform.
That excuse didn’t hold much water with the Molineux faithful who jeered the 22-year-old’s every touch during the opening exchanges.
Madueke almost gave the home fans more reason to jeer him in the opening minute when he made a forceful run which culminated in a stinging shot that Joe Sa did well to repel at his near post.
From the resulting corner, however, the visitors took the lead when Cole Palmer’s corner found Nicolas Jackson at the far post and the Senegal striker made no mistake with an instinctive header.
Chelsea were looking to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing opening defeat against Manchester City in what was Enzo Maresca’s first competitive game in charge.
The Italian was forced into making one change to his starting line-up with Romeo Lavia having suffered a minor hamstring injury.
