Inspired by a Legend: 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi on Emulating his Cricketing Idol

New Delhi: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the talented 13-year-old cricketer who recently made waves after being bought for Rs 1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, remains unfazed by the hype surrounding him. Focused on honing his skills on the field, Vaibhav revealed that his inspiration is none other than the legendary West Indies batsman Brian Lara. Currently representing India in the Under-19 Asia Cup, Vaibhav is showcasing his talent in the ongoing match against Pakistan in Dubai.

Speaking to Sony Sports Network, Suryavanshi said that he is focussing on his game currently and not bothered by what’s happening around him.

“I’m currently focused on my game. I’m not bothered by what’s happening around me. I want to concentrate on the Asia Cup first and then take it game by game,” Suryavanshi told Sony Sports Network ahead of India U19 and Pakistan U19 match.

“Brian Lara is my idol. I try to play like him rest I try to keep it natural with whatever skills I have and I want to work on that,” he added.

Suryavanshi was bought by Rajasthan Royals:
In the IPL auction, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.10 crore. The base price of this player was Rs 30 lakh and he was sold for almost four times his base price. Vaibhav from Bihar created history as the youngest player shortlisted for the IPL auction at the age of just 13 years and 242 days. He has also got a team in the IPL. There was a fight between Rajasthan and Delhi Capitals for Vaibhav.

Has made a splash in domestic cricket:
Vaibhav has made a lot of noise in the domestic circuit. This left-handed batsman has performed brilliantly with his bat at a very young age. After making his first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024, Suryavanshi caught everyone’s attention with a brilliant century during the September India Under-19 vs Australia Under-19 Youth Test Series. Suryavanshi is all set to represent India in the upcoming Under-19 Asia Cup. Recently, a two-match unofficial Test series was played between the Under-19 teams of India and Australia. In this, Bihar’s son scored a century in just 58 balls.
