On March 2, 1962 in Hershey, Penn., Wilt Chamberlain made history by scoring 100 points in a single game for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169-147 victory over the New York Knicks. Chamberlain started strong with 23 points in the first quarter, followed by 41 at halftime, 28 in the third quarter, and 31 in the fourth to reach the historic milestone. Despite being a career 51.1% free throw shooter, Wilt shot an impressive 87.5% from the charity stripe, going 28-of-32, and 57.1% from the field with a 36-of-63 performance. In addition to his scoring prowess, Chamberlain also grabbed 25 rebounds and dished out two assists while playing all 48 minutes of the game. After the game, Philadelphia statistician Harvey Pollack quickly jotted down "100" on a piece of paper for Chamberlain to hold up in front of photographers, creating one of the most iconic images in basketball history. Wilt Chamberlain's scoring record has endured for over six decades, with only one player, Kobe Bryant in 2006, coming within 20 points of Chamberlain's incredible feat.

In the NBA Playoffs, only two players have eclipsed 60 points in a single game — Elgin Baylor and Michael Jordan — and both did so against the same foe.
Baylor set the single-game record in 1962 with a 61-point performance for the Lakers in a win over the Celtics in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
That record stood for 24 years until Jordan scored 63 points in a double-overtime loss to the Celtics in Game 2 of the 1986 first round — a feat that Larry Bird described as: “
God disguised as Michael Jordan
.”
